Supervisory Social Worker-Inpatient Mental Health Associate Director

This position serves as Social Work Supervisor of the Orlando VA Healthcare Systems' 40-bed, 2-wing, Mental Health Center for Acute Recovery and Empowerment (C.A.R.E.) Unit. The Acute C.A.R.E. Unit is a multidisciplinary program serving Veterans at greatest risk to self and/or others.

The Acute C.A.R.E. Social Work Supervisor is expected to be responsible for the clinical and administrative operation of the unit. Incumbent is also responsible for education and training of staff, in conjunction with other VA professionals, to promote the transition from maintenance models of treatment to the contemporary recovery model. The incumbent is expected to adhere to service standards regarding matters of timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with procedures and quantity of work produced. The incumbent must form a cohesive team of staff from a variety of disciplines and supervisory chains of authority to provide an effective, recovery-oriented treatment program. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The Acute C.A.R.E. Social Work Supervisor maintains primary responsibility for the development and implementation of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). However, the Social Work Supervisor must work with several different services and programs (i.e. Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Nursing, Nutrition, and Pharmacy) to develop discipline-specific procedures. The incumbent has oversight and administrative authority over all programming at the Acute C.A.R.E. Unit, and participates in program development, implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, the incumbent works closely with Mental Health Service leadership to develop strategic plans for the growth and development of the Acute C.A.R.E. Unit. The incumbent is expected to remain engaged with service and hospital activities by serving on committees, participating in workgroups, and engaging in educational activities for staff and trainees. The incumbent also works with the service and hospital Accreditation Committees to ensure that all unit programming, documentation, and the physical environment of care meet or exceed current standards. The incumbent will also be responsible for supervising staff administratively aligned under the Mental Health Service, Psychologists, Licensed Mental Health Counselors, and Peer Support staff. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: In addition to meeting the basic requirements stated above, the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates. GS-12 Supervisory Social Worker candidates must have the following: Education and Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
