The Role

 

The USTA’s Tennis Venue Services (TVS) team supports tennis facilities nationwide with technical solutions aimed at making tennis facilities a best-in-class destination. 

 

In this role, you will:

  • Join the TVS team in driving the strategy, knowledge, and innovation surrounding tennis court infrastructure.
  • Collaborate directly with engineers, designers, court contractors, vendors/manufacturers, and facility owners/operators.
  • Support the development of facilities designed to enhance the delivery of tennis across the USTA network, particularly within public parks and community markets. 

 

Responsibilities:

The new manager will oversee the creation of a national repository of technical standards and resources regarding the construction and maintenance of tennis facilities, designed to make technical information about courts more accessible and useful for local communities and establish TVS and the USTA as a knowledge hub for the tennis industry. 

 

They will play a key role in reimagining the TVS technical review process to handle the recent boom in new project inquiries and support research and development initiatives that invite innovation within tennis infrastructure. 

 

  • Stay abreast of standards, industry recommendations, and specifications for tennis court infrastructure.
  • Administer the distribution and timeline of USTA's technical Facility Services projects.
  • Collaborate to identify and establish strategies for the improvement of tennis delivery within markets such as parks and recreation, CTAs, and new facilities.
  • Create a technical knowledge repository.
  • Work directly with relevant parties on any initiatives as assigned.
  • Select involvement with national tennis providers, community tennis associations, and the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA)
  • Administer the comprehensive USTA Park Agency Tennis Assessments with leading agencies, including the Portfolio Assessment (PATA+) program.
  • Provide support to the Public Parks committees

 

Note: This is a facilities and infrastructure role focused on the built environment (construction, materials, and technical design), not an Information Technology or Software Engineering position.

Who You Are

 Candidate should be highly analytical, detail-oriented, data-driven, and have a strong technical foundation in a field like civil engineering, architecture, or construction management. They should be practiced at reading site plans, checking construction specifications, and have a general understanding of the physical requirements of building tennis courts. Person should also be comfortable documenting/organizing technical data/documents in a way that is clear and easy for others to use/reference. Familiarity with public parks or municipalities is a plus, as is a working knowledge of tennis and organizations within the tennis ecosystem. 

 

Many of the projects this candidate will support will require a creative, entrepreneurial, or innovative mindset. Candidates with nonprofit experience, sustainable development, or community development experience would be a plus. More than anything, the person should be team-oriented and work well in a collaborative setting.

 

  • 2-4+ years, engineer in training (EIT)
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of site infrastructure, facility design standards, and site specifications
  • Ability to conduct site analysis
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, Forms & Presentations; and other data analytics programs as needed
  • Highly team-oriented, personable, responsive, independent, organized, and a proactive problem-solver
  • This position is designated as "hybrid/flex" in Orlando and may allow for both remote and on-site work.  Any such position must meet the current USTA hybrid/flex requirements as updated from time to time.  Please consult HR for the most current policy.

The expected range for the base salary for this position is $60,000 - $75,000. This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
